On July 21, 2026, Creattura Co., Ltd. was selected for the FY2026 Green Innovation Subsidy Program administered by Gunma Prefecture.

The selected project is titled “Demonstration of Enhanced Farmer Income through Satellite AI-Based Visualization of Methane Reduction in Rice Paddy Fields and Carbon Insets for Rice.” Through this initiative, Creattura will work with rice paddies in Gunma Prefecture to visualize and verify methane emission reductions achieved through extended mid-season drainage (nakaboshi) using satellite data and artificial intelligence. The project will also explore a mechanism to improve farmer income by incorporating agricultural decarbonization value directly into rice products through a carbon inset approach.

In recent years, efforts to generate J-Credits from Nakaboshi have expanded across Japan. However, several challenges remain:

1. Under the current J-Credit methodology, the duration of dry field conditions is defined based on the dates when irrigation gates are operated, but there is no adjustment mechanism for temporary flooding caused by rainfall or other events.
2. As a result, projects may still qualify even when temporary flooding occurs, making it difficult to objectively verify whether drainage was actually implemented and maintained as intended.
3. Addressing these issues while scaling projects further would increase the operational burden on farmers.

To address these challenges, Creattura has developed its proprietary SWAP Model (Surface Water Absence and Presence Model), which utilizes satellite imagery and AI to remotely detect and monitor the flooding and drainage status of individual rice fields. Through this demonstration project, Creattura aims to establish a more transparent and reliable monitoring methodology for methane reduction activities.

In addition, the project will focus not only on quantifying emission reductions as carbon credits, but also on developing a carbon inset framework that connects climate-conscious farmers with distributors and retailers. As definitions and operational standards for carbon insets remain underdeveloped in Japan, Creattura will work toward building a traceable system from production through sales while aligning with international trends and emerging global standards.

By linking environmental value directly to agricultural products, the initiative seeks to create additional revenue opportunities for farmers and promote the broader adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Creattura remains committed to advancing high-quality carbon credit development through digital technologies and contributing to the realization of sustainable agriculture and resilient local communities.
