A project to upgrade a fossil fuel boiler to a biomass boiler at a paper company. The scale of power generation is 23 MW, reducing fossil fuel consumption by approximately 23,000 kl per year in crude oil equivalent. The largest annual reduction has been achieved in regular J-Credit projects that are currently certified. A new biomass power plant is also scheduled to be put into operation in 2027, and J-credit certification is also being considered.

Our client explored the opportunity to develop a carbon credit project in Southeast Asia. They faced challenges navigating the complexities of the carbon credit market and systems in the region. Specifically, they required support in understanding various standards and methodologies, evaluating project feasibility, and assessing credit generation potential in their target markets.
Creattura provided comprehensive support to the client, guiding them through key carbon standards, including JCM, VCS, and Gold Standard. Our team thoroughly reviewed existing methodologies, specifically on project applicability, additionality, and monitoring requirements, to identify viable project opportunities. We then led an on-site feasibility study to assess credit generation and implementation viability, empowering the client to make an informed investment decision.
Investigation steps
We began by reviewing relevant standards (JCM, VCS, and Gold Standard) and methodologies to evaluate the project’s alignment with existing frameworks. This crucial step clarified the project’s potential under these standards, outlined registration requirements, and assessed the project’s readiness for certification.
Through a thorough review of similar projects and an extensive literature review, we identified critical factors influencing the project’s emissions reduction potential, enabling the client to strategically select high-impact locations and optimize project design to success.
Our in-depth feasibility study included engagement activities and pilot program to evaluate stakeholder openness and gather essential data on emissions reduction potential. We engaged closely with local governments to secure support and ensure full regulatory compliance.
